Kozhikode: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the 67th anniversary conference of the Indian History Congress at Farook College here on March 10.
Minister for Education M.A. Baby will be the chief guest at the inaugural session. Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed; Industries Minister Elamaram Karim; and J.V. Naik, president, All India History Congress and former head of the Department of History, Mumbai University; will speak on the occasion.
It is for the first time a college is hosting the annual conference of the congress. Usually, it is organised on university campuses, the organisers said.
V. Kunhali, professor, Department of History, Calicut University, and M. Kuttialikutty, Principal, Farook College, are the local secretary and local treasurer of the conference.
The conference will be divided into five sections - ancient India, medieval India, modern India, archaeology and foreign nations. Historians Ganapathi Subaiya, Iqbal Hussain, Rajit K. Rai, Retneswar Mishra and K.K. Basha will chair these sessions.
S.C. Mishra lecture
Suvira Jaiswal will deliver the S.C. Mishra Memorial Lecture. Irfan Habib will take part in a symposium on archaeology in the country. Seminars on the Indian national movement, the struggle of 1857, and literature and urban life will also be held. A book exhibition will be organised.
A committee comprising Governor R.L. Bhatia as chief patron and the Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs and noted historians as patrons has been formed for the smooth conduct of the event. K.V. Kunhammed Koya, secretary, Farook College managing committee, is the chairman of the committee
