KOZHIKODE: The district has set February 28 as the deadline for achieving 100 percent financial inclusion. Efforts to meet this achievement have gathered momentum in the district.
Accordingly, at least one member of every family in the district should have opened an account either in a commercial bank or a cooperative bank, before the stipulated date. Those who are unable to deposit money, can open zero-balance account, said Lead District Manager M Balakrishnan.
To open an account, an applicant needs to produce a photocopy of either ration card or election identity card and a passport-sized photo.
He said all households should ensure that they have become part of the banking system. The financial inclusion scheme will help farmers and others wriggle out of the clutches of local money-lenders.
This apart, the attempt to achieve 100 percent inclusion will facilitate better implementation of various financial schemes.
At least one member of every family in the district, which does not have a bank account so far, should approach the nearest branch of any commercial bank or cooperative bank for achieving cent percent financial inclusion in the district, the lead district manager said.
