A gallery for sports at science centre

KOZHIKODE: The Regional Science Centre and Planetarium here has set up a Human Endurance Gallery, which features innovative methods and equipment to improve the physical and mental performance of a person, especially sportsmen.
 
As many as 34 equipment, including those for stereo hearing, reaction time checking and thermal imaging, equipment to improve skills in basketball and cricket, tread mill, cyber game station and virtual reality game, are being exhibited at the gallery.
 
The gallery will be inaugurated on February3.
 
Education Minister M A Baby will pay a visit to the centre on the day. Talking to reporters I K Mukherjee, director general of National Council of Science Museum (NCSM), said science communication is a major work being carried out by the NCSM and it is planning more innovative programmes at the centre in the coming years.
 
He said NCSM has already set up science centres in North Eastern states, besides in Sikkim and Mauritius. Mukherjee said the centre is planning to set up another gallery featuring heritage of India in science and technology at a cost of Rs 1.7 crore.
 
S M Khened, director, Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, said the gallery would be an eye-opener for the government or organisations including SAI to implement science in sports.
