KALPETTA: The Karshaka Samara Samithy led by the Karshaka Sangham would lay siege to two cooperative banks, at Poothadi and Padinjarethara ruled by the UDF, on February 27 in protest against the alleged anti-farmer policies of these banks.
While all other banks had written off the loans taken by farmers in tune with the package announced by the LDF Government, these banks which received the amount from the government attained a stay against distributing the relief measures for 15 families, said the leaders of the forum at a press conference here on Friday.
The Poothadi Cooperative Bank obtained a stay against writing off the loans of 10 families while the Padinjarethara Cooperative Bank denied the assistance to 5 families. The UDF, which argue for a complete write off of farm loans, is revealing its true colours by denying the same to farmers, the leaders alleged.
P. Krishnaprasad, convener of the Karshaka Samara Samity (KSS) and K.K. Jacob, chairman, participated in the press conference.
