KARIPUR: The work for a permanent Haj camp being set up near Calicut International Airport began here on Sunday. Kicking off the work, Minister for Haj Paloli Mohammed Kutty assured that the building would be completed ahead of the deadline set by the authorities.
The Minister praised the determination of Haj Committee members in fulfilling a long-cherished dream by the State's Hajis.
Nirman Mohammed Ali, a construction contractor, has bagged the tender for the permanent Haj House work. The authorities said the work would be completed in a year.
Delivering the keynote address, T.K. Hamza, MP, said that the Haj House was a huge task entrusted to the State Haj Committee. He sought the cooperation of all sections for the completion of the work in time. K. Mohammedunni, MLA, presided over the function. District Collector K.S. Premachandra Kurup presented a report. Thariyode Mohammed Kunhi Musliar led the prayer.
Haj Committee chairman A.K. Abdul Hameed welcomed the gathering. K. Salim, assistant secretary for Haj, proposed a vote of thanks. K. Alikutty Musliar, Central Haj Committee vice-chairman; Kasim Koya, State Haj Committee vice-chairman; and H. Muzammil, Haj Committee member, were present on the occasion.
