KOZHIKODE: Will this ever-growing city ever get a convention centre to host a national or international event? Though efforts are on to set up the proposed International Convention Centre near Thondayad, it seems it will be a long wait for the city to enjoy a convention centre on the lines of that in Ernakulam or Thrissur.
The Revenue Department has made things all the more difficult by not yet issuing the order to handover the land identified for the centre to the Calicut Development Authority (CDA). It was in 2004 that the efforts for a convention centre, estimated at a cost of Rs 12 crore, were initiated jointly by the Rotary Club of Calicut and the CDA. The then PWD minister had even issued a letter directing the PWD to transfer the land to CDA for the purpose.
