KOZHIKODE: Sale of tickets for the second India-Pakistan Veterans One Day International to be played in Kozhikode on February 25 was inaugurated by film actor Biju Menon on Monday.
The first ticket was received by Baiju Gopal, executive director of the Sri Gokulam group, at a function held at ING Vysya Bank's branch on Cherootty Road.
Speaking at the function, J.K. Mahendra, president, Kerala Veterans Cricket Association, and former member of an Indian Schoolboys Cricket team, expressed the hope that the staging of the Indo-Pak match in Kozhikode would give a big boost to cricket in the region. It would also serve a humanitarian cause. A part of the proceeds from the sale of tickets will go to the Pain and Palliative Care Society attached to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, which provides free medical care to patients afflicted with terminal diseases such as cancer, and to the Malabar Cancer Institute and Research Centre, which is engaged in cancer relief activities. The remainder of the funds would be used for the benefit of veteran players and for the development of new talent in Kerala.
The match will start at 10 a.m. at Corporation Stadium. Tickets are priced at Rs.250, Rs.150, Rs.100 and Rs.50. There will be a separate stand for women, for which tickets are available for Rs.100 and Rs.50.
The tickets are sold through all branches of ING Vysya Bank in Kerala.
The Kozhikode match is the second in a three-match series - the others are played at Udaipur and Meerut.
India is being led by Mohammed Azharuddin and Pakistan by former master spinner Abdul Quadir. Robin Singh, Venketesh Prasad and Nayan Mongia would be the star attractions in the Indian team while Pakistan's star players will be Aaqid Javed, Shoaib Mohammed, Rashid Latif, Ijaz Ahmed and Mansoon Akhtar.
A celebrity dinner with the players is arranged at Kadavu Resorts on February 24. Besides Mr Mahendra, Thomas Muthalali, regional head, ING Vysya Bank, Kerala; Alok Duggal, head, marketing, ING Vysya Bank; also attended the programme.
