T'PURAM: The Project Sanctioning Committee of the Union Ministry of Urban Poverty Alleviation and Employment gave approval for the Integrated Urban Slum Development Project (IUSDP) of the Kozhikode Corporation with an outlay of Rs 7.15 crore.
Of the total cost, 80 percent will be given as grant by the Union Government, 10% from the State Government and 10% from the urban local body.
According to a statement issued here on Friday, the committee hailed the project as one of the best and model for IUSDP. The Centre for Integrated Rural and Urban Studies (CIRUS), Thiruvananthapuram, prepared the project for the Kozhikode Corporation.
The project has been designed incorporating all the basic amenity components such as housing, water supply, electricity, internal and external physical connectivity, drainage, sewerage, solid waste disposal, community centre, amenity shops etc in an integrated manner.
In the first phase of the programme, around 511 below the poverty line (BPL) families of Santhi Nagar Colony, Kalluthan Kadavu Colony and Kothi Colony will be covered. More than 50 colonies in the corporation area will be taken up in the subsequent phases, the statement said.
