EXPENDITURE OF RS. 361.31 CRORE INCURRED IN DEVELOPMENT OF AIRPORTS IN THE 10TH PLAN

A number of airports have been taken up for upgrdation in the 10th Five Year Plan. The expenditure incurred as on 31st March 2007 for this purpose is:- Rs. 116.89 croes for the Northern Region, Rs. 3.9 crores for the Eastern Region, Rs. 58.33 crores for the North-Eastern Region, Rs. 80.32 crores for the Western Region and Rs. 101.87 crores for the Southern Region. This information was given by Shri Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation in the Lok Sabha today.

The airports that have been taken up for upgradation in the Tenth Five Year Plan are at Dehradun, Jaipur, Khajuraho, Kullu, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Srinagar and Udaipur in the Northern Region; Bhubaneshwar and Gaya in the Eastern Region; Agartala, Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Silchar in the North Eastern Region; Ahmedabad, Akola, Aurangabad, Belgaun, Diu, Goa, Gondia, Nagpur, Raipur, Pune and Vadodara in the Western Region; and Agatti, Calicut, Madurai, Mangalore, Mysore, Tirupati,. Trichi and Vizag in the Southern Region. The projects include construction of new runways, new international terminal complex, apron taxi-ways, terminal buildings, technical blocks cum control towers, drainage and rain water harvesting systems, re-carpeting of runways etc.

While most of the projects are running as per schedule, there have been delays in respect of certain projects due to non-closure of airports by State Governments in view of assembly elections, inclement weather conditions, hostile law and order salutation etc.

Most of these projects are likely to be completed by December 2007. Certain projects whose scheduled date of commencing is in 2008 are expected to be completed as per schedule.
