Indian Institute of management Kozhikode (iimk) was instituted in 1996 by the Government of India as the 5th IIM in the country, with the collaboration of Government of Kerala state.At first the IIMK was operational at the National Institute of technology Calicut. The first batch of 42 students started of their academics from this temporary campus. In the year 2000 the land of present location in the top of two hills was identified in Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode. The next year Joseph Stein (late) - the architect of the India Habitat Centre in Delhi and Stein Mani Chowfla began the design and construction of the institute. In the Year 2003, IIMK shifted into its new location, which is now its present location - The hill-top campus. It was inaugurated by Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam and the then chief Minister Of Kerala, Mr. A.K. Antony. 2006 marks the completion of adecade of IIMK's existence. Over this decade, the institute has emerged as a centre of excellence in management education and earned a unique position for itself in this field.
