Canara Bank initiative to form SHGs

Canara Bank has in association with the NGO Malabar Theeradhesa Vanitha Federation formed 85 self-help groups (SHGs). Each SHG will get a grant Rs.5,300, T.S Veereraghavan, chief manager, Canara Bank, West Hill, said on Friday.

SHG day

The `mahila' banking division of Canara Bank observed SHG day at Kamburam on Thursday by organising credit-linkage programme for the new groups. The bank sanctioned 18 loans to SHGs amounting to Rs.6,00,000. K. Gopalakrishnan, Deputy General Manager (DGM), Calicut Circle office, who presided and handed over the loan sanction letters to the SHG beneficiaries, said Canara Bank stepped into its 101st year with a target of credit linking at least 50,000 SHGs in the country before March this year.

Credit linking

The mahila banking division of Canara Bank's West Hill branch was instrumental in credit linking 38 groups and had plans to credit link around 20 more before the end of the financial year.
