Kerala CM sees foreign hand behind terror

Kozhikode: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here yesterday that mafias with foreign aid were involved in terrorist activities in India but innocent people suffered their consequences.

Inaugurating the national integration meet, Achuthanandan said that religious leaders were not behind terrorism but the mafias backed by foreign forces.

He cited the communal flare-ups in Marad in the Kerala coastal region in Kozhikode and Mumbai as examples of such terrorist activities.

The innocent minority community members were harassed for such terrorist activities carried out by people with Muslim names. "This is what happened in Mumbai and Marad," he noted.

Contributions

"The contributions given by the Muslim community for the unity of India has to be specially mentioned. The Muslim leaders had to face severe hardships for the freedom of the country. The biggest challenge in front of us is communalism and if we stand united, the country can achieve more," the chief minister said.

Bombs found

Achuthanandan's statement comes close on the heels of reports that the Marad issue is getting serious after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that the agency could not conduct a partial investigation into the matter.

Recovery of bombs and weapons from Marad recently has also added to the tense situation at the site of the two bloody communal flare-ups.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had expressed their discontent soon after the CBI director stated that the agency would not probe the case.

The BJP stated that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had scuttled the proposed CBI probe since the Marad Commission had found that IUML workers were also involved in the incidents relating to the massacre.
