Kozhikode : North Zone Inspector General of Police M.N. Krishnamurthy inaugurated a consumer get-together and a seminar organised by the Coordination of Consumer Organisations (COCO) in connection with the World Consumer Day at the Rotary Youth Centre at Chakkorathukulam here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Krishnamurthy said that laws giving the police powers to act on complaints from consumers needed to be framed in the context of increasing number of cases pertaining to violation of consumer rights. The police could help consumers by preventing the exploitation by traders, he said. COCO chairman Valsan Nellicode presided over the inaugural session. Malayala Manorama Resident Editor K. Aboobacker, COCO treasurer S. Usman Koya and Calicut East Rotary Club president T.C. Joseph spoke. A seminar on safe use of liquefied domestic gas was also held. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited executive sales officer Mahesh Rajagopal handled the classes.
