M.V. Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Union Bank of India, said here on Tuesday that the bank proposed to enhance its presence and involvement in the Malabar region.
Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Calicut Press Club, Mr. Nair said the Area Business Development Office (ABDO), which he inaugurated here, would step up the involvement of the bank in the growth and development of the region.
The jurisdiction of the office spanned Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. It would operate at the grassroots level to draw up an annual action plan linked to growth strategies. The office would also be the primary driving force in the opening of branches in the region.
The bank opened 56 branches across the country on January 2. Of these, five were in Malabar.
In January or February, one more branch would be opened in Malappuram district and another in Thrissur.
The bank had identified 20 additional centres and was conducting surveys for opening branches there.
