THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Statistics compiled by Kerala police for an internal report, has revealed that 850 of its personnel from the rank of constable to DSP stand accused of heinous crimes.
In Kannur district, a DSP was accused of house trespass while another DSP, a circle officer and some others faced rape charges.
Two cops in Kollam were in the dock for harassing a married woman and another faced charges in connection with the death of a woman following unscientific abortion.
While in Kozhikode, some serving cops are allegedly involved in visa frauds, in Malappuram they have been accused of offences under the passport act. Allepy accounted for 50 tainted cops and Kochi for 30.
Of the 850 accused police personnel, only 19 have so far been removed from service.
