AI Express to start Mangalore-Muscat flights

Dubai, Feb. 6 (PTI): Budget airline Air-India Express will start flights from Muscat to Mangalore in Karnataka from February 15.
 
There will be two flights a week to Mangalore on Thursday and Saturday.
 
"This is an important step in fulfilling the aspiration of Indian expat population hailing from Mangalore in India," said S Pancharatnam, country manager, Air-India Express was quoted as saying in Times of Oman.
 
Air-India commenced operations to Muscat in 1974. It presently operates thrice-weekly flights each between Mumbai and Muscat, and Delhi and Muscat, via Abu Dhabi, with Airbus 310s aircraft.
 
The budget airline, presently has 55 flights out of Kerala to various destinations in the Gulf. It has a fleet of nine aircraft and is planning to induct 18 new state-of-the-art 737-800 Boeing aircraft. It began operations to Muscat in 2005, the 50th year of diplomatic ties between India and the Sultanate of Oman.
 
Air-India Express currently operates six weekly services between Oman and India - five to Muscat from Kochi, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram; and one between Salalah and Kozhikode.
