Counselling centres prepare for exams

KOZHIKODE: Are you a SSLC or Plus-two student finding it tough to cope up with the examination pressures? Feel free to walk into a counselling centre and comeback ready to take the challenge head on.

Offering succour to students, caught between the expectation of parents and their inability to score, the counselling centres in city are getting ready ahead of the exam season in March.

The city already has Thanal, a suicide prevention counselling centre; CIGI, Manusha, Mythri and a Child line offering counselling service. This Friday one more counselling centre, Calicut Institute of Counselling for Adolescents, was launched in city ahead of the examination season.

“We kept our office open for 24 hours during exam season in the previous years. With the grading system, the students are now almost free from examination pressures,” says director of Thanal, Dr PN Suresh Kumar. This year, Thanal is organising special sessions during examination season and after the announcement of results.

“I have come across many incidents where children were seen struggling to live up to the expectations of parents. The major reason behind the stress suffered by students is the conflict between the expec-tations of parents and their inability to meet them.”

“Many children need only a session to get rid of the pressure, however it is necessary to give counselling to parents also,” said Suresh Kumar, who is also the director of IMHANS.

Apart from conselling, the organisations like Manusha, CIGI and Mythri are conducting classes in personality development and in career guidance. These centers are also organising training sessions to impart soft skills to students.

Radhakrishnan, director of CICA, said it will organise sessions on a regular basis with the help of schools and libraries
