KOZHIKODE: The senders know quite well that their messages will go unread by the recipient. But they are still sending them. They, in fact, have been sending them for the past one month.
No one knows how many mails Ashok Krishnan has received after his tragic death on that fateful day in January. But anyone can go through his scrapbook on the ‘Orkut’, the popular friends community network of Google, to see how much he was loved by his friends.
“Ashok Krishnan passed away yesterday (Thursday, January 4) at 5’o clock in the evening...he drowned in a lake when he went for bathing with his friends...” one of his friend announces the tragedy a day after to surprise many who had sent messages without knowing that Ashok had already begun his journey to the nether world.
Going through the scores of messages that followed, one would be shaken by the deep and genuine emotions, which are gradually disappearing from this world of rat race. “The days v spent together, the good times we had ... those wat 2 do calls... really missing you Ashok,” writes his friend Robin.
A first-year student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut, Ashok was the one who had a very good social contact in his family, says his bereaving mother and Wayanad Education Officer NI Thankamani.
“Is there his picture on internet? Oh..we don’t know his password to check the messages,” she, along with her elder son Nirmal and daughter Nisha, are yet to recover from the shock.
Ashok, who has 62 friends in the orkut network, has uploaded five photographs in his album. The pictures show him posing with his pets Dallu (a Dalmatian) and Micky (an Alsatian). ‘U know me... I am a TIGER... who’s always interested in making friends...” the self-introductory remarks stare at us from Ashok’s page.
“My poor son... he lost his father (former DFO V.Krishnan) a month after he joined Sainik School in 1998. He had been very active all the time. Friends were his craze and he always kept a close relationship with everyone,” his mother knows not how to check her emotions.
“Miss ur scraps, miss ur presence...but..u still live in the hearts of everyone here......remembering u every moment...n praying 4 u....urs friendly....” writes Prince.
They have created a community for the departed friend – Ashok live in our hearts. “Let us pay respect to our beloved friend Ashok Krishnan. Let us pray for him and may his soul rest in peace,” says the 38-member community.
And suddenly everyone start thinking... about similar messages they would receive in www.orkut.com or other internet sites.
