New Delhi: The Election Commission on Thursday asked the LDF government to file a charge sheet against the former Kozhikode district collector Jayathilak, for his alleged lapses during the run-up to the Thiruvambadi bypoll, within seven days.
The Election Commission, after verifying a petition submitted by the central election observer against Jayathilak, also found that the former district collector had violated the all India service rules.
The LDF government is also directed by the Election Commission to take appropriat action on the basis of the charge sheet to be submitted within six months.
In the plea submitted by the central election observer to the EC, Jayathilak was accused of making lapses in coordinating various government departments,violating election rules, reacting to the election observer through the media and not ensuring proper security for the independent candidate during the run-up to Thiruvambadi bypoll.
Jayathilak was removed from his post as district collector on the orders of the State election Commission during the run-up to the Thiruvambady Assembly byelection.
