Women cops to guard fair sex coaches in day hours

KOZHIKODE: Quite a bit of good news for women commuting in trains.

The Railway police will soon deploy women constables in ladies'
compartments in all trains during day hours.

The new move will be a relief to commuters since a number of chain
snatching cases were reported in the region, especially at Kuttipuram
and Tirur. However, the department is yet to take a decision on giving
protection to them during night hours.

Two constables will be assigned to look after ladies compartment in
each train passing through Malabar region during day time. Women
constables will also be deployed on platforms.

Most of the railway commuters said they are expecting women constables
in train during night journeys also.

The department had deployed women constables on platforms for day duty
during Sabarimala season.

"For the past one month two women constables were deployed on railway
platforms. In the coming days women cops will be deployed in ladies'
compartments," said K Ajay Kumar, DySP (Administration), Kozhikode
Railway Station.

Four women constables were appointed on the deputation at Kozhikode
railway station.

But they have not yet reported for the duty, said sources in Railway police.
