KOZHIKODE: High Court Judge Justice R.Basanth has asked the critics of judiciary to study the verdicts of courts thoroughly before offering their criticism.
Inaugurating a discussion on ‘Criticism of court verdict: Right or Wrong’, organised by the Vigil Human Rights here on Saturday, he said not every person has the competency to pass comments on judicial verdicts. There are some systemic methods to criticise the judiciary.
“We need to have some lines drawn. This is not to help any judge,” he said.
A court verdict may not be appealing to all and acceptance by majority is not a concern for a judge. A verdict is firmly based on reason, he said.
T.K. Hamza MP, in his speech, said there is some thing wrong in the recent judicial verdicts, which raises eyebrows. There will not be any criticism if the courts remain as courts. There will be reactions if the courts transgress the limits.
He said that a situation has come when the court themselves are framing laws which is the domain of the legislature.
BJP leader P S Sreedharan Pillai, former minister Dr M K Muneer, Calicut Bar Association president V.C. Geethamani and others spoke.
