It was one such good deed that landed Jifrina, autorickshaw driver, in trouble.
On Monday, the traffic police flying squad allegedly waylaid Jifrina's autorickshaw near the Railway Station in Kozhikode on receiving a complaint that she had allegedly tried to draw money by forging the signature on a treasury savings bank certificate valued at Rs.1.20 lakh.
Jifrina discovered a savings bank certificate (No.761315) in the name of Suja Backer of Beypore in her vehicle. She handed over the certificate to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (south station) and also received a receipt from the police.
Jifrina said she took the certificate first to the sub-treasury office to verify its authenticity. She claimed that the woman employee on duty found that the validity of the certificate extended to October 29. The woman returned the certificate to Jifrina only after she raised a hue and cry.
It was only after showing the receipt that the police became convinced of her honesty. The savings bank certificate has been handed over to the owner.
