Kerala team to kick off Inkel roadshow on April 12

thiruvananthapuram • Kerala’s Left Democratic Front government will kick off the overseas roadshows to woo Non-Resident Indian (NRI) investments for its ambitious infrastructure public-private venture, Infrastructure Kerala Ltd, in GCC countries on April 12.

A high level delegation led by Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem and Inkel special officer John Mathai will conduct shows in West Asia, where nearly 1.5 million Keralites are working. The nine-day itinerary ends on April 21. This will be followed by roadshows in Europe and the US.

The government is planning to mobilise a capital of Rs15bn for the new company. Inkel, which was registered on March 9, with a paid-up capital of Rs1bn, will have a Government stake of 26 per cent. The government has invited 52 NRI businessman of Kerala origin to devise strategies for mobilising the investments from NRIs at Kochi on March 17.

They include Muscat-based M Far Group chairman P Mohammed Ali, M K Group chairman M Y Yusuf Ali, Qatar-based C K Menon and Dr Mohan Thomas and DC Mills Chief Executive K J Dennis.

The investments will be fully utilised for building infrastructure for high-tech industries. Inkel has already identified four places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode for creating infrastructure for sunrise industries. A delegation of the Malaysian-based CIDB has already evinced interest in developing infrastructure on a 250-acre plot Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) owns at Kinaloor in Kozhikode.
