KOZHIKODE: Government Medical College, Kozhikode, which had been closed down for the past five days following a clash between the students of the college union and the Students' Federation of India (SFI), will be reopened on Thursday.
P.V. Ramachandran, Principal, said the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting held on Wednesday decided to reopen the college. The meeting decided to set up a core committee, comprising teachers and parents, to take action against students found guilty during similar such issues.
Strict action will be initiated against troublemakers. Another PTA meeting will be held on Thursday morning.
The medical college has been witnessing clashes between the supporters of an independent group, which controls the union, and the SFI. The clashes occurred soon after the independent group defeated the SFI in the college union elections. The quarrels intensified during the Calicut University Inter-Zone Arts Festival held on the campus recently.
Three students, including office-bearers of the college union, were admitted to hospital after the clash last Friday.
The police conducted a raid on the college hostel after the incident and seized weapons. The police arrested three students and a person hailing from Puthiyangadi here in connection with the clash on Friday.
