NIT-C cultural fete draws to a close

KOZHIKODE: A performance by Kochi-based rock band `Evergreen' was the highlight of the final day of Ragam-07, the cultural festival organised by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) on its campus near here on Saturday.

NIT-C was set to win `Ragam' with 269 points as results of some of the events were yet to be announced on Saturday evening. College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) was in second position with 169 points. Amrita School of Engineering was in third position with 123 points.

The contestants of Eastern Orchestra (finals) mesmerised the audience with a blend of old and contemporary Indian music. `Crossroads'— the annual quiz fest conducted by Enquire, the quiz club of NIT-C, was another major attraction of the day. Over 70 teams participated.

The day was eventful with mime, street play, monoact, cartooning, rangoli and mehndi design. The literary events included debates in both English and Malayalam.

JAM (English) was a crowd-puller. `Spelling Bee' checked the spelling prowess of the participants. `Block and Tackle' tested the wit and speaking skills of individuals on given topics. It involved speaking for or against the topic and changing stance according to the whims of the judges.

Love letter writing and creative writing were open events, which attracted a large number of entries.

`Triple Mash' was another exciting event which had rounds like Pictionary, Cluedo, and Tom, Dick & Harry. `Ad zap,' an event where teams were given unreal products for which they had to form a humorous ad, was also an attention-grabbing one.

One of the outstanding events of the day was the classical music event, in which participants were required to sing kirthanas.
