KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA) Calicut Medical College (MC) Unit said in a statement here that though patients undergoing orthopaedic surgeries at Medical College Hospital bought about 250 equipment from companies, only three or four equipment were used for the surgery. The unused equipment were returned to the company.
This has been the system in place for 20 years, it said.
The statement said the hospital was not able to store costly equipment due to financial constraints. The association was reacting to reports of stopping of surgeries for a couple of days at the orthopaedic department at the Calicut Medical College Hospital for want of equipment. The companies have reportedly refused to supply equipment. The Association said it was up to the authorities and the public to decide whether the hospital should continue the present system.
